Board Positions

This Page will not be updated after Sarah and Michael retire from the CANDO Board of Directors in October 2024.

The CANDO Board occasionally takes positions on local issues affecting Salem's downtown.  Anyone may ask the Board to consider taking a position.

Issue:  Should Salem enact Ordinance Bill 10-19 (sit-lie)?  The CANDO Board voted to recommend against.

Issue:  Should Salem grant UGM a conditional use permit to relocate to the 700-800 block of Commercial Street?  The CANDO Board voted against taking a position.

Issue:  Should Salem pass Measure 24-423 (City of Salem Library Improvements General Obligation Bond Authorization)?  The CANDO Board voted to support the measure.

IssueShould Salem and Marion and Polk Counties begin planning to re-create a local continuum of care to plan and coordinate the effective delivery of local homeless housing and services, some of which are funded through HUD's CoC Program.  One grantee has expressed concerns about leaving the regional organization.  The CANDO Board voted to support the commencement of leave-planning.

Issue:  Should Salem pass Measure 24-399 (City of Salem Police Facility General Obligation Bond Authorization)?  Some thought it cost too much and should have included seismic upgrades to the Regional Library building.  The CANDO Board voted to support the measure

Issue:  Should Salem affirm the enactment of Ordinance Bill 12-23 (Safe Salem Payroll Tax)?  The CANDO Board voted unanimously to recommend in favor.
