The regular meeting of the CanDo Board of
Directors was called to order at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at
the First Christian Church at 685 Marion Street NE, Salem. David Dahle was in
the chair and Michael Livingston acted as Secretary.
The minutes of the February meeting were approved
unanimously.
Officer Van Meter reported on SPD’s successful coordination
with social services agencies in providing assistance over the past week to campers
being evicted from their illegal camp on K&D Sand and Gravel property along
the Willamette River in West Salem, including transitional housing for two
females.
Councilor Bennett reported that the Council had voted
to site the new police facility on the O'Brien
site; that there would be a public hearing on the Capital
Improvement Plan (CIP) is scheduled for April 11; that the Salem Housing
Authority is negotiating with DAS to acquire two acres around Yaquina Hall on the
North Campus of the State Hospital ground; and that the Downtown Advisory Board
(DAB) had recommended to the Urban Renewal Agency the acquisition of four opportunity
purchases downtown properties, including the Scott’s Cycles block, but the URA
had postponed action to allow affected businesses to receive notice of the
recommendation.
In public comment, Jan Kailuweit introduced
himself as a candidate for the Ward 1 position on the City Council, and Bruce
Hoffman reported that the 42
year-old SAIF building at 400 High Street SE will be vacated for renovations
by early April and there would be a party to mark the occasion, date and time
TBA.
The board then heard a presentation by Historic
Preservation Officer Kimberli Fitzgerald on effective advocacy before the
Historic Landmarks Commission.
There being no other business before the board,
the meeting of the Board of Directors adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
